Litter not picked for over a year now! this area is consistently missed

Reported via desktop in the Street Litter Picking category anonymously at 15:34, Monday 9 March 2026

Sent to Southwark Council less than a minute later. FixMyStreet ref: 9074506.

Accumulating unpicked litter in the planted border along Albatross Way, between (and including) the steps linking Dominion Drive to Swan Road and Canada Water station. This area, plus the planted beds that border Seth Street and the Albion Estate, plus Swan Road where it joins Seth Street are consistently neglected. It seems likely that Albatross Way, being a recently constructed waling route, has never been incorporated into a street cleaning route; and its a-joining steps and routes are falling into a grey area between estate and street cleaning schedules.

Something must be done about this as the amenity value of the area is deteriorating as a consequence, with rubbish and dumping starting to occur in the streets nearby. The route is the main pedestrian thoroughfare linking Canada Water station and the wooded walkways leading to residential streets towards Surrey Water. It also takes increasingly busy footfall as a cut through for cyclists and walkers between Canada Water and Rotherhithe. Albatross way and the steps have definitely not been litter picked for a year.

Albatross Way borders the recent housing development which is maintained privately - but the walkway itself IS the responsibility of Southwark (despite the fact that the Street name sign itself has been demolished)

Southwark treescape and street cleaning is generally well attended to but this busy back route is totally neglected.

Please litter pick the planted areas before the shrub growing season makes it more difficult and please acknowledge and instate the route as part of the general street cleaning schedule.

Residents should not have to repeatedly report this problem - neither should they have to litter pick themselves, even though this often happens. We pay council tax. No-one wants to live in or walk through a dirty, rubbish-strewn neighbourhood and we really shouldn't have to. Its likely an oversight - but it is a long-standing and systemic one and should now be remedied.

  • Thanks so much for litter picking Seth Street/Albion Estate/Swan Road.

But Albatross Way has not been fixed

There has been some litter picked up along Albatross Way but the route has NOT been swept (there is still leaf litter/sludge from the Autumn) and the planted border is still full of litter. Also the street sign opposite Brampton House is missing, leaving just the damaged supports. It seems certain that Albatross Way is simply not on anyone's cleaning or maintenance route to attend to.

Could there be a litter bin along the route maybe at the top of the steps by Dominion Drive? And please can the route be incorporated into the regular street sweeping schedule.
