Rubbish in Redcross way outside Cromwell flats
Reported via mobile in the Street Litter Picking category by Kim Vale at 01:39, Sunday 8 February 2026
Sent to Southwark Council less than a minute later. FixMyStreet ref: 8863640.
The communal bins designated for residents in Cromwell flats Redcross way are being heavily used by members of the public, particularly during busy weekend trading periods. Considerable amounts of rubbish are being left both inside and around the bins, resulting in overflowing waste, litter across the pavement, and what is now becoming a clear public health concern.
This location experiences exceptionally high footfall due to the market, and the current bin provision appears wholly inadequate for the volume of waste generated. Residents should not be expected to manage commercial or visitor refuse, nor to live alongside the hygiene risks this situation creates.
I would be grateful if the council could urgently:
• Arrange an immediate clean-up of the area• Review bin capacity and collection frequency• Consider dedicated waste provision for market visitors and nearby businesses• Explore measures to prevent misuse of residential bins
